Sahaviriya Group jointly with Bangsaphan District, and local adminstrations led Bangsaphan people and Sahaviriya staff participating in the first “Bangsaphan Car Free Day 2011″on Sunday, September 18,2011 in response to Global Warming countermeasures and the auspicious celebration for His Majesty the King’s 7th cycle, the 84th birthday anniversary.
The “2 Wheels preserve Bangsaphan” program aiming to arouse Bangsaphan people’s attention on low-carbon and healthy lifestyles, was actively participated by Bangsaphan cyclists of varying age from 5 to 80 years old, with total 320 bicycles, from 5 check-in points – Kamnerd Nopphakhun Sub-District Municipal Office, Kamnerd Nopphakhun Sub-District Administration Office, Phong Prasat Sub-District Administration Office, Mae Ramphueng Sub-District Administration Office, and Sahaviriya Steel Industry Plant. After riding to the gathering at Bangsaphan District Office, all cyclists ride around Bangsaphan Market, and at the same time, Bangsaphan people stopped using engine vehicles for 30 minutes during 8.00-8.30 AM. According to the calculation, this activity helped reduction of 3.95 tons carbondioxide footprint on that day.
Apart from this “Car Free Day” kick-off, Sahaviriya Group is going to launch various kinds of activities such as calling on staff to ride a bicycle, or to take company bus or carpool instead of driving alone, as well as supporting bicycle clubs, in order to reduce vehicle emissions and strengthen health. Sahaviriya Group will continue to improve staff and Bangsaphan people’s awareness of environmental protection and make efforts in building Bangsaphan into a low-carbon town.

เครือสหวิริยา ร่วมมือกับอำเภอบางสะพาน และองค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่น นำชาวบางสะพานและพนักงานเครือสหวิริยาเข้าร่วมโครงการ 2 ล้อรักษ์บางสะพาน เฉลิมพระเกียรติ 84 พรรษามหาราชา ภายใต้กิจกรรม Bangsaphan Car Free Day 2011 ในวันอาทิตย์ที่ 18 กันยายน 2554 เพื่อรณรงค์ลดภาวะโลกร้อนและเฉลิมพระเกียรติพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวฯ เนื่องในวโรกาสเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษาครบ 84 พรรษา
สำหรับกิจกรรม “2 ล้อรักษ์บางสะพาน” ซึ่งมุ่งปลูกฝังความสนใจของชาวบางสะพานในการดำรงชีวิตแบบลดโลกร้อนและสุขภาพแข็งแรงนั้น มีชาวบางสะพานทุกเพศทุกวัย อายุตั้งแต่ 5 – 80 ปี นำจักรยานรวม 320 คันเข้าร่วมกันปั่นจักรยานอย่างคึกคักจากจุดลงทะเบียนทั้ง 5 จุด คือ เทศบาลตำบลกำเนิดนพคุณ, องค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลกำเนิดนพคุณ , องค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลพงศ์ประศาสน์ , องค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลแม่รำพึง และบริษัท สหวิริยาสตีลอินดัสตรี จำกัด (มหาชน) มารวมตัวกันหน้าที่ว่าการอำเภอบางสะพานและร่วมกันปั่นจักรยานรณรงค์ลดการใช้พลังงานรอบตลาดบางสะพาน รวมถึงขอความร่วมมือชาวบางสะพานร่วมลดภาวะโลกร้อนโดยร่วมกันงดใช้ยานยนต์ตั้งแต่เวลา 8.00 – 8.30 น.เป็นเวลา 30 นาที ซึ่งจากการคำนวณแล้วกิจกรรมในวันดังกล่าวสามารถช่วยลดการปล่อยคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์เทียบเท่าได้ถึง 3.95 ตัน
นอกเหนือจากกิจกรรมเปิดตัวในวันดังกล่าวแล้ว เครือสหวิริยายังจะสนับสนุนกิจกรรมต่างๆ อย่างต่อเนื่อง ได้แก่ การเชิญชวนพนักงานใช้จักรยาน หรือใช้รถบัสของบริษัท หรือรวมรถแทนการขับรถยนต์โดยลำพัง การสนับสนุนกิจกรรมชมรมจักรยานต่างๆ เพื่อลดมลพิษจากรถยนต์และเสริมสร้างสุขภาพที่ดี เครือสหวิริยาจะดำเนินการอย่างต่อเนื่องเพื่อให้พนักงานและชาวบางสะพานตระหนักถึงการปกป้องสิ่งแวดล้อม และเดินหน้าอย่างเต็มที่เพื่อให้บางสะพานเป็นเมืองซึ่งมีสิ่งแวดล้อมที่ดี
Sahaviriya Steel Industry PLC or SSI, the largest fully integrated producer of steel sheet and the first global steel company in ASEAN, recently held Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders 2/2011 chaired by Mr.Wit Viriyaprapaikit, Chairman of the Board of Directors, at Grand Ballroom, Thai CC Tower, Bangkok to approve issuing convertible debentures in amount of 2,250 Million Bath or equivalent in other currencies for more investment of SSI UK in England which will restart steel production by the end of this year
