• Net profit of Bt. 267 million in the first quarter
• Premium Value Products Strategy provides healthy margin, accounts for 42% of total sales volume
• Company delivers 3 new products and acquires 4 new customers, 6 new potential customers are in testing process on 10 products specifications
• Aiming to generate return from investment in Sahaviriya Steel Teesside steel slabs production is slated to commence in October 2011
Mr. Win Viriyaprapaikit, President of Sahaviriya Steel Industries PLC(“SSI”) reveals that in Q1/2011 the Company and its subsidiaries realized total revenues of Bt.12,033 million and revenue from sales of hot-rolled coil of Bt.11,946 million, decreases of 14 % and 13, respectively % from Q1/2010 which were Bt.13,976 million and Bt.13,795 million respectively. The Company realized a net profit of Bt. 267 million, or 82% decrease from a net profit of Bt.1,456 million in Q1/2010.
SSI’S President said that despite pressure from increasing cost of raw materials in Q1/2011, the Company posted positive operating results which was attributed toto the followings:
1. Achieving high rolling spread. Our Premium Value Products Strategy which provided healthy margin and now accounted for 42% of total sales volume (high-grade 21%, unique product 12% and Innovated Premium Value Product 9%),
2. Delivery of 3 new products and acquisition of 4 new customers, and separately 6 new potential customers are in testing process on 10 specifications of products,
3. Writing down the value of its steel inventories at in Q1/2011 in a total amount of Bt. 152 million in accordance with our conservative accounting approach and our policy on good corporate governance.
4. The Company realized shares of profit from investments in Thai Cold Rolled Steel Sheet PLC (“TCRSS”), its jointly-controlled entity, of Bt. 15.3 million, in West Coast Engineering Co., Ltd. (“WCE”) of Bt.8.8 million, and in Prachuap Port Co., Ltd (“PPC”) of Bt. 17.5 million for Q1/2011.
5. The Company realized losses of Bt.291 million from consolidation of Sahaviriya Steel UK Limited (“SSI UK”) wherein expenses relating to the acquisition transaction and for securing required financings were charged while Sahaviriya Steel Teesside is partially operating with production of coke and electricity operational. Steel slabs production is slated to commence in October 2011.
SSI’s President disclosed that the acquisition transaction was successfully completed with the handover of the facilities to SSI UK on 24 March 2011. With the acquisition of Sahaviriya Steel Teesside, SSI is now ASEAN’s largest fully-integrated fiat steel producer. The success of this deal came as a result of support from stakeholders and financial institutions. SSI’s operation now spans across borders and from upstream to downstream steel products, the first global steel maker from ASEAN. SSI will concentrate on generating return from its investment by producing and delivering quality products that satisfy clients’ requirements, continuing to create value to the business and investors and delivering sustainable returns to all stakeholders
SSI expects the acquisition to enable it to achieve an increase in sales of hot rolled coils from 2.24 tons in 2010 to 3.5 tons per year in 2012 and help SSI gain better control of its raw material cost resulting in higher gross margin than its competitors when raw materials price are rising.
As for steel industry outlook in 2011, global and domestic steel industry has been supported by strong demand from the recovery of the world’s major economies. The Iron and Steel Institution of Thailand (ISIT) estimates that Thailand’s steel consumption will increase to 15.5 million tons, up 14 % from 2010. World Steel Association forecasts that world steel use in 2011 will rise 5.9%, to 1,360 million tons which will be the highest record year in terms of consumption, and in 2012 steel consumption will increase to 1,440 million tons, representing a 6 % increase.

นายวิน วิริยประไพกิจ กรรมการผู้จัดการใหญ่ บริษัท สหวิริยาสตีลอินดัสตรี จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือ เอสเอสไอเปิดเผยผลการดำเนินงานของบริษัทฯ ในไตรมาสที่ 1 ปี 2554ว่าบริษัทและบริษัทย่อย มีรายได้รวม 12,033 ล้านบาท โดยคิดเป็นรายได้จากการขายเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนชนิดม้วน จำนวน 11,946 ล้านบาทลดลงร้อยละ 14 และ 13 เมื่อเทียบกับรายได้รวม 13,976 ล้านบาท และรายได้จากการขายจำนวน 13,795 ล้านบาทในช่วงเวลาเดียวกันของปี 2553 โดยบริษัทและบริษัทย่อยมีผลกำไรสุทธิ 267 ล้านบาท ลดลงร้อยละ 82 เมื่อเทียบกับไตรมาสเดียวกันของปี 2553 ซึ่งมีผลกำไรสุทธิจำนวน1,456 ล้านบาท
นายวินกล่าวว่า ท่ามการแรงกดดันด้านต้นทุน จากการปรับขึ้นของต้นทุนวัตถุดิบ บริษัทยังสามารถรักษาระดับผลการดำเนินงานในอัตราที่น่าพอใจ เป็นผลมาจาก
1. บริษัทสามารถรักษาค่าการรีด (Rolling Spread) ให้อยู่ในระดับสูง โดยมุ่งเน้นการขายสินค้าประเภทเหล็กแผ่นชั้นคุณภาพพิเศษ (Premium Value Product) ซึ่งมีอัตรากำไรส่วนต่างที่ดี โดยยอดขายร้อยละ 42 เป็นผลิตภัณฑ์คุณภาพพิเศษ ประกอบด้วยผลิตภัณฑ์เหล็กแผ่นชั้นคุณภาพสูง (High grade)ร้อยละ 21 ผลิตภัณฑ์คุณลักษณะเฉพาะ (Unique Product) ร้อยละ 12 และ ผลิตภัณฑ์นวัตกรรมที่มีมูลค่าเพิ่มกับลูกค้า(Innovated Premium Value Product หรือ IVP) ร้อยละ 9
2. บริษัทได้พัฒนาสินค้าใหม่ 3 ชนิดโดยเป็นเหล็กแผ่นชั้นคุณภาพใหม่ และมีลูกค้าใหม่ 4 ราย นอกจากนี้ บริษัทอยู่ระหว่างการทดลองผลิตภัณฑ์กับลูกค้าใหม่ในกลุ่มดังกล่าว 6 ราย คิดเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์ 10 ชนิด
3. มีการตั้งสำรองการขาดทุนสินค้าคงเหลือ (stock loss provision) จำนวน 152 ล้านบาท ตามราคาตลาดตามหลักธรรมาภิบาลที่ดี
4. บริษัทรับรู้ ส่วนแบ่งกำไรจาก บริษัท เหล็กแผ่นรีดเย็นไทย จำกัด (มหาชน) (TCRSS) ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทร่วมทุน 15.3 ล้านบาท และบริษัทย่อย ประกอบด้วย บริษัท เวสท์โคสท์เอ็นจิเนียริ่ง จำกัด (WCE) มีผลกำไรจากการดำเนินงาน 8.8 ล้านบาท และบริษัท ท่าเรือประจวบ จำกัด (PPC) ที่มีผลกำไร 17.5 ล้านบาท
5. บริษัทรับรู้ผลขาดทุนจาก บริษัท สหวิริยาสตีลอินดัสตรี สหราชอาณาจักร จำกัด (SSI UK) จำนวน 291 ล้านบาท จากบันทึกค่าใช้จ่ายในการซื้อทรัพย์สิน โรงถลุงเหล็กสหวิริยาสตีล ทีไซด์ และค่าใช้จ่ายในการจัดหาแหล่งเงินทุนเพื่อซื้อทรัพย์สินดังกล่าว ในขณะที่หน่วยผลิตส่วนหนึ่งได้ดำเนินการผลิตอย่างต่อเนื่อง อาทิ โรงผลิตโค้ก และ โรงไฟฟ้าที่ผลิตและป้อนกระแสไฟฟ้าเข้าสู่ระบบสายส่งของรัฐบาล โดยโรงถลุงเหล็กสหวิริยาสตีล ทีไซด์ มีแผนจะเริ่มดำเนินการผลิตเหล็กแท่งในเดือนตุลาคม 2554 นี้
นายวินกล่าวว่าบริษัทประสบความสำเร็จในการลงทุนในสินทรัพย์ โรงงานถลุงเหล็กและผลิตเหล็กกล้าครบวงจร “สหวิริยาสตีล ทีไซด์” ประเทศอังกฤษ โดยได้รับการสนับสนุนจากผู้ถือหุ้น และ สถาบันการเงิน เป็นอย่างดี จนทำให้สามารถบรรลุผลการซื้อขายและมีการส่งมอบสินทรัพย์ดังกล่าวในวันที่ 24 มีนาคม ที่ผ่านมา และส่งผลให้ เอสเอสไอเป็นผู้ผลิตเหล็กแผ่นครบวงจรรายใหญ่ที่สุดในอาเซียน และเป็นบริษัทเหล็กระดับโลกรายแรกในอาเซียน สร้างความเชื่อมั่นให้กับกลุ่มนักลงทุนเพิ่มมากขึ้น นับจากนี้เอสเอสไอจะมุ่งมั่นทำให้สิ่งที่ลงทุนไปให้เริ่มมีผลตอบแทนคือการผลิตสินค้าที่มีคุณภาพตรงตามความต้องการของกลุ่มผู้บริโภคซึ่งจะสามารถสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้การดำเนินธุรกิจและแปรเป็นผลประโยชน์กับนักลงทุน รวมถึงสร้างผลตอบแทนให้กับผู้มีส่วนได้เสียได้อย่างยั่งยืน
ทั้งนี้คาดว่าการลงทุนดังกล่าวจะส่งผลให้ปริมาณขายผลิตภัณฑ์เหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนชนิดม้วนของบริษัทเพิ่มขึ้นจาก 2 . 24 ล้านตันในปี 2553 เพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 3.5 ล้านตันในปี 2555 ประการสำคัญคือสามารถควบคุมต้นทุนวัตถุดิบและปริมาณวัตถุดิบที่สม่ำเสมอ รวมถึงมีอัตรากำไรขั้นต้นได้ดีกว่าคู่แข่งรายอื่นๆ เมื่อราคาเหล็กแท่งแบนปรับตัวเพิ่มขึ้น
สำหรับภาวะอุตสาหกรรมเหล็กปีนี้คาดว่า จะยังคงมีปริมาณการบริโภคอย่างต่อเนื่องทั้งตลาดในประเทศและตลาดโลกเนื่องจากภาวะเศรษฐกิจโดยรวมเริ่มฟื้นตัว ผลิตภัณฑ์เหล็กเป็นที่ต้องการสูงขึ้น โดยสถาบันเหล็กและเหล็กกล้าแห่งประเทศไทย ได้ประมาณการเติบโตการบริโภคเหล็กในประเทศปีนี้ว่าจะเติบโตขึ้นร้อยละ 14 หรือคิดเป็นอัตราการบริโภคเหล็กประมาณ 15.5 ล้านตัน ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับสถาบันเหล็กโลกที่คาดว่าการบริโภคเหล็กจะเติบโตประมาณร้อยละ 5.9 โดยมีอัตราการบริโภคเหล็กอยู่ที่ประมาณ 1,360 ล้านตัน ซึ่งเป็นอัตราการบริโภคเหล็กสูงที่สุดในประวัติศาสตร์ และในปี 2555 จะยังคงเติบโตขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่องที่อัตราร้อยละ 6 หรือประมาณ 1,440 ล้านตัน
