SVG Provides Annual Scholarships to 15 schools inner-Bangsaphan
Dr. Maruay Phadoongsidhi, Chairman Of The Board Of Directors of Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company Limited, together with management team and staff from companies of Sahaviriya Group, presented 275 scholarships, in an amount of 505,000 Baht to students from 15 schools in Bangsaphan. SVG has provided scholarships to inner-Bangsaphan students for the 15th straight year, since the inception of the program in 1995. The objective was to enhance education opportunity for economically weaker students from the primary school and high school in the local area. This program is part of the Group’s continuing commitment to community service.

ดร.มารวย ผดุงสิทธิ์ ประธานกรรมการ บริษัท สหวิริยาสตีลอินดัสตรี จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือ เอสเอสไอ พร้อมคณะผู้บริหาร และ พนักงานบริษัทต่างๆในเครือสหวิริยาร่วมมอบทุนการศึกษาให้แก่เยาวชนบางสะพานจำนวน 275 ทุน มูลค่า 505,000 บาทใน โครงการมอบทุนการศึกษาเครือสหวิริยาประจำปี 2552 ซึ่งเป็นโครงการที่จัดต่อเนื่องมาเป็นปีที่ 15 แล้ว โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสนับสนุนโอกาสทางการศึกษาให้แก่เยาวชนในท้องถิ่นที่มีฐานะยากจนตั้งแต่ระดับประถมศึกษาถึงระดับอุดมศึกษา โดยใช้รูปแบบการเดินทางเป็นคณะนำโดยผู้บริหารบริษัทในเครือสหวิริยาเพื่อไปมอบทุนการศึกษาตามโรงเรียนต่างๆ ในเขตพื้นที่อำเภอบางสะพานจำนวน 15 แห่ง โครงการมอบทุนการศึกษานี้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของกิจกรรมพัฒนาชุมชนที่เครือสหวิริยาได้ดำเนินการอย่างต่อเนื่อง
4 Companies from SSI Group won PM Awards 2009 / Productivity– Quality Management – Energy Management
4 companies from SSI Group of Companies won the Outstanding Industrial Awards of 2009, in categories of Productivity, Quality Management and Energy Management. These are results from strong determination to develop the manufacturing technology and services to respond to the needs of the customers and the stakeholders in full circle.
Mr. Win Viriyaprapaikit, President of Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company or SSI, revealed that due to the strong willpower and management policy of the Company in SSI Group of Companies under the full support from managements and employees on development of steel industry capability. The Company continually received many awards from both public and private sectors. This year, 4 companies from SSI Group of Companies have been selected and presented the Prime Minister Industry Award 2009 from the Ministry of Industry. The award was initiated by the Ministry of Industry with the aim to encourage creativity and full commitment to industrial development among Thailand’s industrial enterprises. The awards presentation ceremony will be held on 14 July 2009 at Santi Maitri Building, the Royal Thai Government House and presided by Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, the Prime Minister.
The awards that 4 companies in SSI Group of Companies received are:
• Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company Limited (SSI) received the Outstanding Industrial Award of 2009 for Productivity. SSI has also received this award twice, in 2000 and 2005. The other awards previously received were the Environmental Conservation Award in 2001 and 2008, Quality Management Award in 2002 and 2007, Energy Management Award in 2006 and Safety Management Award in 2003.
• West Coast Engineering Company Limited (WCE) received the Outstanding Industrial Award of 2009 for Quality Management. WCE once received SME Industrial Management Award in 2003.
• Thai Cold Rolled Steel Sheet Public Company Limited (TCRSS) received the Outstanding Industrial Award of 2009 for Energy Management. TCRSS previously received the Environmental Conservation Award in 2007, Safety Management Award in 2008 and Quality Management Award in 2003.
• Thai Coated Steel Sheet Company Limited (TCS) received the Outstanding Industrial Award for Energy Management. This is the first year that TCS received this kind of award.

SSI is the first manufacturer of hot rolled steel sheet in coils in Thailand with maximum capacity of 4 million tonnes per year. It has been recognized as the biggest and the most modern plant in ASEAN and it is also the first industrial operator in Thailand who received the Prime Minister Industrial Award in 2003. In addition, on 1st February 2009, SSI was the first plant in Thailand whose production could reach 20 million tonnes.

เอสเอสไอเป็นผู้ผลิตเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนชนิดม้วนรายแรกของไทย ด้วยกำลังการผลิตสูงสุด 4 ล้านตันต่อปี ซึ่งได้รับการยอมรับให้เป็นโรงงานที่ทันสมัยและใหญ่ที่สุดในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ และเป็นผู้ประกอบการอุตสาหกรรมรายแรกของประเทศที่ได้รับรางวัล ฯพณฯ นายกรัฐมนตรี อุตสาหกรรมยอดเยี่ยม ในปี 2546 และเมื่อวันที่ 1 กุมภาพันธ์ 2552 เอสเอสไอสามารถผลิตเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนชนิดม้วนได้ครบ 20 ล้านตัน เป็นรายแรกของไทยอีกด้วย
SSI “To Be Engineer # 5” Project
Sahaviriya Steel Industrial PCL or SSI recently arranged “To Be Engineer # 5” continually project by invited approximately 1,000 students in M.3 level from 15 secondary schools in Bangsaphan participate in Interesting activity e.g. knowing and understanding steel industry, Hot Roll Coil production process, SSI environmental management, and recreational activities relating steel. The project aims to enhance the opportunity of engineering career to students who interested in and help them on education planning for future working in their homeland.
โครงการ “อนาคตเหล็กไทย สร้างด้วยเด็กไทย” ครั้งที่ 5
บริษัท สหวิริยาสตีลอินดัสตรี จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือ เอสเอสไอ จัดโครงการ อนาคตเหล็กไทย สร้างด้วยเด็กไทย ครั้งที่ 5 เป็นโครงการที่จัดขึ้นต่อเนื่อง โดยนำนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 จาก 15 โรงเรียนในเขตอำเภอบางสะพาน จำนวนกว่า 1,000 คน เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมให้ความรู้ด้านอุตสาหกรรมเหล็ก กระบวนการผลิตเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อน การจัดการด้านสิ่งแวดล้อมของเอสเอสไอ และกิจกรรมนันทนาการ รวมทั้งให้แนวคิดเพื่อช่วยส่งเสริมในการเป็นวิศวกรในอุตสาหกรรมเหล็ก และยังเป็นการกระตุ้นในการให้เยาวชนเลือกวางแผนการศึกษา เพื่อที่จะสามารถกลับเข้ามาทำงานในท้องถิ่นของตนเองต่อไปในอนาคต

SSI put more emphasis on competitive capability by stressing on R&D to continually improve quality of products and manufacturing procedures. 42 works have been certified by NSTDA. The next target is to develop products with high-end customers to emphasize its position as the ASEAN’s market leader of high-grade steel sheets.
Mr. Win Viriyaprapaikit, President of Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company or SSI, said that the research and development (R&D) works of SSI have been successfully and continually achieved since 2006 in respond to the mission “the market leader of high-grade steel sheets of ASEAN, creating sustainable value for stakeholders”. Presently, 42 researching projects of SSI and its subsidiary, i.e. West Coast Engineering Company Limited (WCE) have been certified by National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) with total costs of research projects worth more than 45 million Baht and 90 persons were registered to be the researchers by NSTDA.
Examples of important research works and developments of SSI and its subsidiary included Development of Forming Limit Diagram (FLD) in Deep Drawing Process for Compressor Product, Design and Development of Tail End Compensation System (TEC) to Control Thickness Consistency Hot Rolled Coil Product Length, Design and Development of Heat Shield at Reheating Furnace to Reduce Heat Loss, Effect of Deep Drawing Process on Microstructure of Low Carbon Steel, Development of Spindle Shaft by Welding Method and Development of CNC Engraving Machine.
“R&D projects by R&D Department of the Company emphasized on the works which will be beneficial to the study and development of Thai steel industry on continued basis, especially the quality improvement of hot rolled steel sheet which is the core product of SSI in order to respond to the needs of the high-grade steel customers. The research work also placed importance on the continually development and improvement of production quality as per the plan to become the sustainable learning organization”, said Mr. Win.
Mr. Win also said that the next target of R&D works of SSI is R&D on joint product development with the customers, particularly steel products which require high-grade production technology, such as automobile industry and auto parts manufacturers. It can be said that SSI will expands its role from being the manufacturer to be the product designer for the customers. This will be another way to support and make the customers achieve their business target.
In addition, the business partners and competitive capability are very crucial for the steel industrial development, from upstream to downstream, in today’s world. Focusing on R&D works is the most important fundamental to technology development as well as growing together with the business partners. This is the way that the world’s leading steel manufacturers adhere to. Therefore the capability development guidelines currently operated by SSI can be regarded as an important part to boost up and keep SSI business for sustainable growth.

เอสเอสไอ เดินหน้าเพิ่มขีดความสามารถในการแข่งขัน ลุยงานวิจัยและพัฒนา (R&D) เพื่อปรับปรุงคุณภาพผลิตภัณฑ์และกระบวนการผลิตอย่างต่อเนื่อง เผย 42 งานวิจัยได้รับการรับรองจาก สวทช. แล้ว มุ่งเป้าพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์ร่วมกับลูกค้าระดับบน เพื่อตอกย้ำการเป็นผู้นำตลาดเหล็กแผ่นชั้นคุณภาพพิเศษแห่งอาเซียน
นายวิน วิริยประไพกิจ กรรมการผู้จัดการใหญ่ บริษัทสหวิริยาสตีลอินดัสตรี จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือ “เอสเอสไอ” เปิดเผยว่า บริษัทประสบความสำเร็จในงานวิจัยพัฒนา (Research and Development) อย่างต่อเนื่อง นับตั้งแต่ปี 2549 เป็นต้นมา เพื่อตอบสนองต่อภาระกิจในการก้าวขึ้นเป็น “ผู้นำตลาดเหล็กแผ่นชั้นคุณภาพพิเศษแห่งอาเซียนและสร้างผลตอบแทนแก่ผู้มีส่วนได้ส่วนเสียอย่างยั่งยืน” ปัจจุบันมีผลงานจากโครงการวิจัยของบริษัทและบริษัทย่อย ได้แก่ บริษัท เวสท์โคสท์ เอ็นจิเนียริ่ง จำกัด (WCE) ที่ได้รับการรับรองจากสำนักงานพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีแห่งชาติ (สวทช.) รวม 42 โครงการวิจัย รวมมูลค่าโครงการวิจัยกว่า 45 ล้านบาท และมีบุคลากรที่ได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นนักวิจัยโดย สวทช. รวมทั้งสิ้น 90 คน
ตัวอย่างผลงานโครงการวิจัยและพัฒนาที่สำคัญๆ ของ เอสเอสไอ และบริษัทย่อย ได้แก่ แผนภาพขีดจำกัดการขึ้นรูปสำหรับเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนสำหรับงานขึ้นรูปคอมเพรสเซอร์ ซอฟท์แวร์เพื่อควบคุมความหนาของเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนให้สม่ำเสมอ แผงกั้นความร้อนของเตาเผาเพื่อลดการสูญเสียพลังงานความร้อน การศึกษาผลของการลากขึ้นรูปที่มีต่อโครงสร้างทางโลหะวิทยาของเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนคาร์บอนต่ำ การผลิตชุดเพลาส่งกำลังโดยกรรมวิธีเชื่อมต่อ และการผลิตเครื่องกัดลายลูกรีดจากเครื่องกลึงอัตโนมัติ
“โครงการวิจัยและพัฒนา โดยฝ่ายวิจัยและพัฒนาของบริษัท มุ่งเน้นการดำเนินงานวิจัยที่เป็นประโยชน์ต่อการศึกษา ค้นคว้าและพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมเหล็กของไทยอย่างต่อเนื่อง โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งการพัฒนาคุณภาพสินค้าเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนชนิดม้วนซึ่งเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์หลักของเอสเอสไอ เพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการของลูกค้าในกลุ่มผู้ใช้เหล็กแผ่นชั้นคุณภาพพิเศษ รวมถึงการพัฒนาและปรับปรุงคุณภาพการผลิตอย่างต่อเนื่องตามแผนงานการมุ่งสู่การเป็นองค์กรแห่งการเรียนรู้อย่างยั่งยืน” นายวิน กล่าว
นายวิน กล่าวอีกว่าเป้าหมายต่อไปของงานวิจัยและพัฒนาของเอสเอสไอ คือ การวิจัยและพัฒนาสินค้าร่วมกับลูกค้าโดยเฉพาะผลิตภัณฑ์เหล็กที่ต้องใช้เทคโนโลยีในการผลิตขั้นสูง (High Grade) เช่น ผู้ประกอบการอุตสาหกรรมรถยนต์และชิ้นส่วนยานยนต์ ถือได้ว่าเอสเอสไอขยายบทบาทจากการเป็นผู้ผลิตเพื่อจำหน่าย ไปสู่การออกแบบผลิตภัณฑ์สำหรับลูกค้า ซึ่งช่วยส่งเสริมและสนับสนุนให้ลูกค้าบรรลุผลสำเร็จเชิงธุรกิจได้อีกทางหนึ่ง
ทั้งนี้ในการพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมเหล็กตั้งแต่ต้นน้ำจนถึงปลายน้ำในโลกปัจจุบัน พันธมิตรทางธุรกิจและขีดความสามารถในการแข่งขัน ขององค์กรถือเป็นเรื่องสำคัญ การมุ่งเน้นกับงานวิจัยและพัฒนาซึ่งถือเป็นรากฐานสำคัญในการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยี ตลอดจนการเติบโตร่วมกันกับพันธมิตรทางธุรกิจ ถือเป็นแนวทางที่ผู้ประกอบอุตสาหกรรมเหล็กรายสำคัญของโลกดำเนินการอยู่ ดังนั้นแนวทางการพัฒนาขีดความสามารถที่เอสเอสไอดำเนินการอยู่ดังกล่าวจึงเป็นส่วนสนับสนุนที่สำคัญที่ช่วยให้ธุรกิจของเอสเอสไอเติบโตได้อย่างยั่งยืน
