SSI earned Bt.0.917 billion baht in Q2/2010, up 34% over Q2/2009 and realized total revenues of Bt.11.928 billion, up 51% compared to Q2/2009 due to the increases of sales volume as well as high rolling spread with the focus on sale of Premium Value Products, while WCE and PPC, two affiliates, and TCRSS, JV company, also posted excellent results. Seeking to become an innovative organization and expecting demand to rise as steel prices are improving.
Mr. Win Viriyaprapaikit, President of Sahaviriya Steel Industries PLC(“SSI”) reveals that in Q2/2010 the Company and its subsidiaries realized total revenues of Bt.11.928 billion and revenue from sales of hot-rolled coil of Bt.11.646 billion, up 51% and 51% y-o-y over Q2/2009, which were Bt.7.924 billion and Bt. 7.726 billion respectively. Sales revenue consists of Bt.11.164 billion domestic sales and Bt. 0.482 billion export sales, representing 60% increase and 37% decrease compared to Bt.6.964 billion and Bt.0.761 billion in the same period last year. With commitment in good corporate governance, SSI wrote down the value of its steel inventories at the maximum level in Q2/2010, totaling at Bt. 0.544 billion following the significant drop of HRC prices in domestic market.
Volume-wise, SSI sold 97% on domestic market and 3% on export markets. Sales of Premium Value Products accounted for 43% of total sales volume. The Company realized a net profit of Bt. 0.917 billion, or 34 % up from a net profit of Bt. 0.683 billion in Q2/2009.
“This result was attributed to (1) Profit gained from higher sales volume due to a strong growth of automobile and energy sector, (2) High rolling spread of Premium Value Products, and (3) Achieved the target of gross profit. Meantime, the debt-crisis of the European countries and China policy on property-bubble control put down steel prices in the past two months.” said the President of SSI.
The Company’s jointly-controlled entity, namely Thai Cold Rolled Steel Sheet PLC (“TCRSS”), and two subsidiaries, namely West Coast Engineering Co., Ltd. (“WCE”) and Prachuap Port Co., Ltd (“PPC”), performed well in Q2/2010 and continued to provide good return to SSI. SSI realized net profit from investment in TCRSS of Bt. 69.3 million in Q2/2010. Apart from this, SSI also enjoys direct benefits from TCRSS through closed marketing cooperation which helps boost sales volume and reduce inventory cycle for both SSI and TCRSS. SSI also realized net profit from investment in WCE of Bt.10.8 million and PPC of Bt. 22.4millionin Q2/2010 respectively.
Mr. Win added that we are striving toward an innovative organization which adheres to our purpose; “Innovate Premium Value steel products and services for customer; generate consistent profit and sustainable value for stakeholders” under the Company’s new business plan (2010-2012). In Q2/2010, SSI successfully delivered four new products into the market and was granted the world class certificates from the three global leading certifications bodies including Bureau Veritas of France, ABS of USA and GL of Germany for the Company’s premium grade products, so called BV-A, BV-B and BV-D which are used in ship-building and boiler manufacturing industry. On July 3, we successfully achieved the 20 million tons of hot rolled coil production. In addition, we also received the Prime Minister’s Industry Award on Logistics for the year 2010, and the Outstanding Award on Best practices of Employee Recreation.
“Steel price already passed the bottom and is starting to rise again following demand recovery. Given low level of steel prices, the business risks become less. So we believe that the Company will perform well through the second half of the year under more favorable and stable market conditions, particularly supported by the strong growth of down-stream industries i.e. the automobile and energy sectors such as gas cylinder, gas pipe, and transformers, which use high-grade steel sheets as raw materials.”

ตั้งสำรองขาดทุนวัตถุดิบตามราคาตลาด544ล้าน เน้นขายผลิตภัณฑ์นวัตกรรมที่มีมูลค่าเพิ่มกับลูกค้า
เอสเอสไอรายงานผลการดำเนินงานไตรมาส2/ 2553 กำไรสุทธิ 917.7 ล้านบาท เพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ 34 จากไตรมาส 2/2552 มีรายได้จากการขาย 11,807.5 ล้านบาท ขยับเพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ 51 จากไตรมาส2/ 2552 เพราะปริมาณขายเพิ่มขึ้น ค่าการรีดอยู่ในระดับสูงโดยเน้นขายผลิตภัณฑ์นวัตกรรมที่มีมูลค่าเพิ่มกับลูกค้า (Premium Value Products) บริษัทย่อยสดใสสร้างผลตอบแทนถ้วนหน้า พร้อมเดินหน้าองค์กรแห่งนวัตกรรม คาดกำลังซื้อกลับมาหลังราคาเหล็กแนวโน้มขาขึ้น
นายวิน วิริยประไพกิจ กรรมการผู้จัดการใหญ่ บริษัท สหวิริยาสตีลอินดัสตรี จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือ เอสเอสไอเปิดเผยผลการดำเนินงานของบริษัทฯ ในไตรมาสที่ 2/2553 ว่ามีการขยายตัวเพิ่มขึ้นทั้งด้านรายได้จากการขาย และกำไรสุทธิ เมื่อเทียบกับไตรมาสที่ 2/2552 โดยบริษัทและบริษัทย่อย มีรายได้รวม 11,928.3 ล้านบาท โดยเป็นรายได้จากการขายเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนชนิดม้วน จำนวน 11,646.5 ล้านบาท เพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ 51 และ 51 เมื่อเทียบกับรายได้รวม 7,924.6 ล้านบาท และรายได้จากการขายจำนวน 7,726.1 ล้านบาทในช่วงเวลาเดียวกันของปี 2552 รายได้จากการขายดังกล่าว แบ่งออกเป็นรายได้จากการจำหน่ายในประเทศจำนวน 11,164.5 ล้านบาท และรายได้จากการส่งออกจำนวน 481.9 ล้านบาท เพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ 60 และลดลงร้อยละ 37 เมื่อเทียบกับไตรมาสเดียวกันของปี 2552 ที่มีรายได้จากการขายภายในประเทศ จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 6,964.7 ล้านบาท และรายได้จากการส่งออกจำนวน 761.3 ล้านบาทตามลำดับ บริษัทได้ตั้งสำรองค่าเผื่อการลดมูลค่าของสินค้าคงเหลือสุทธิจำนวน 544 ล้านบาท ในไตรมาส 2/2553 ตามหลักธรรมาภิบาลที่ดี เนื่องจากราคาเหล็กที่ลดลงตามราคาตลาดเหล็กของโลก
สำหรับสัดส่วนในการจัดจำหน่ายนั้น บริษัทฯ มีปริมาณการจำหน่ายในประเทศคิดเป็นร้อยละ 97 และต่างประเทศร้อยละ 3 ตามลำดับ แบ่งเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์นวัตกรรมที่มีมูลค่าเพิ่มกับลูกค้า (Premium Value Products) ร้อยละ 43 ของปริมาณการขายรวม โดยบริษัทมีผลกำไรสุทธิ 917.7 ล้านบาท เพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ 34 เมื่อเทียบกับไตรมาสเดียวกันของปี 2552 ซึ่งมีผลกำไรสุทธิจำนวน 683.8 ล้านบาท
“ผลประกอบการของไตรมาส 2/2553 มาจากปัจจัยหลายประการ คือ 1. ผลกำไรจากปริมาณยอดขายที่สูงเมื่อเทียบกับไตรมาสเดียวกันของปีก่อน สืบเนื่องจากความต้องการใช้เหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนในอุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์ และอุตสาหกรรมพลังงาน ซึ่งกำลังขยายตัวอย่างต่อเนื่องและมั่นคง 2. บริษัทสามารถรักษาค่าการรีด (Rolling Spread) ให้อยู่ในระดับสูง โดยเน้นการขายผลิตภัณฑ์นวัตกรรมที่มีมูลค่าเพิ่มกับลูกค้า (Premium Value Products) 3. บริษัทจึงสามารถทำยอดกำไรขั้นต้นได้ตามเป้าหมาย 4. แต่ในขณะเดียวกัน วิกฤติหนี้สาธารณะของหลายประเทศในกลุ่มอียูและนโยบายการควบคุมฟองสบู่อสังหาริมทรัพย์ของประเทศจีน ทำให้ราคาเหล็กมีการปรับตัวลดลงในช่วง 2 เดือนที่ผ่านมา บริษัทจึงได้ตั้งสำรองการขาดทุนสินค้าคงเหลือ (stock loss) ตามราคาตลาด”
สำหรับบริษัทร่วมทุน และ บริษัทย่อยของเอสเอสไอนั้นล้วนประสบผลสำเร็จในการดำเนินธุรกิจในไตรมาส2/2553 และได้สร้างผลตอบแทนคืนสู่เอสเอสไอ โดยในส่วนของ บริษัท เหล็กแผ่นรีดเย็นไทย จำกัด (มหาชน) (TCRSS) ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทร่วมทุน บริษัทรับรู้ส่วนแบ่งกำไรจาก TCRSS 69.3 ล้านบาท ในไตรมาสที่ 2/2553 เนื่องจากจำหน่ายเหล็กแผ่นรีดเย็นให้กับอุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์ได้มากขึ้นเช่นกัน นอกเหนือจากประโยชน์โดยตรงที่เอสเอสไอได้รับจากความร่วมมือด้านการตลาดเพื่อส่งเสริมยอดขาย และลดระดับสินค้าคงคลังของทั้งสองบริษัทให้ต่ำลง และรับรู้ผลการดำเนินงานบริษัทย่อย คือ บริษัท เวสท์โคสท์เอ็นจิเนียริ่ง จำกัด (WCE) มีผลกำไรจากการดำเนินงาน 10.8 ล้านบาท ซึ่งขยายงานวิศวกรรมบริการทั้งลูกค้าภายในกลุ่มและลูกค้าภายนอกที่มีศักยภาพ อาทิ อุตสาหกรรมพลังงาน กระดาษ และบริษัท ท่าเรือประจวบ จำกัด (PPC) ที่มีผลกำไรจากการดำเนินงาน 22.4 ล้านบาท
นายวินกล่าวอีกว่า บริษัทได้พัฒนาไปสู่องค์กรแห่งนวัตกรรม ซึ่งเป็นไปตามการดำเนินการตามแผนธุรกิจ3 ปี (2553-2555) และสอดคล้องกับ วิสัยทัศน์ใหม่ คือ“สร้างสรรค์นวัตกรรมผลิตภัณฑ์เหล็กและบริการที่มีมูลค่าเพิ่มกับลูกค้า สร้างกำไรสม่ำเสมอ สร้างผลตอบแทนแก่ผู้มีส่วนได้เสียอย่างยั่งยืน” โดยในไตรมาส 2/2553 บริษัทประสบความสำเร็จในการพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์เหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนใหม่ตอบสนองความต้องการของลูกค้า 4 ชนิด ผลงานวิจัยและพัฒนาของบริษัทได้รับการตอบรับให้แสดงผลงานในเวทีวิชาการเหล็กโลกทั้งที่มาเลเซียและสหรัฐอเมริกา สามสถาบันรับรองคุณภาพผลิตภัณฑ์ระดับโลก คือ Bureau Veritas ฝรั่งเศส – ABS สหรัฐอเมริกา และ GL เยอรมนี ให้การรับรองผลิตภัณฑ์ชั้นคุณภาพพิเศษเกรด BV-A, BV-Bและ BV-D ซึ่งครอบคลุมการใช้งานอุตสาหกรรมต่อเรือ และหม้อต้มแรงดันสูง นอกจากนี้ บริษัทประสบความสำเร็จในการผลิตเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนชนิดม้วนครบ 23 ล้านตัน เมื่อวันที่ 3 กรกฎาคม ที่ผ่านมา เช่นเดียวกับ รางวัลต่างๆที่ได้รับซึ่งเป็นเครื่องแสดงถึงประสิทธิภาพและความสำเร็จ ได้แก่ รางวัล ฯพณฯ นายกรัฐมนตรี อุตสาหกรรมดีเด่นประเภทโลจิสติกส์ประจำปี 2553 รางวัลสถานประกอบการดีเด่นด้านนันทนาการ อีกด้วย
“ในส่วนของภาวะอุตสาหกรรมเหล็กโลกและภายในประเทศนั้น ราคาได้ผ่านจุดต่ำสุดไปแล้วและกำลังปรับตัวขึ้นจากกำลังซื้อที่เริ่มกลับมา ประกอบกับราคาตลาดที่ได้ปรับลงลงมาทำให้ความเสี่ยงในการทำธุรกิจลดลงไปมาก จึงมองว่าการดำเนินธุรกิจของบริษัทในครึ่งปีหลังน่าจะราบรื่นและมั่นคง โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งจากการเติบโตของอุตสาหกรรมต่อเนื่องที่ต้องการใช้เหล็กแผ่นที่มีคุณภาพพิเศษเป็นวัตถุดิบ โดยเฉพาะอุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์และอุตสาหกรรมพลังงาน อาทิ ถังก๊าซ ท่อก๊าซ และหม้อแปลง ซึ่งจะส่งผลดีต่อตลาดสินค้าเหล็กแผ่นชั้นคุณภาพพิเศษให้เติบโตตามไปด้วย” นายวินกล่าว
